Swiss president calls for rebuilding trust

In her opening speech to the World Economic Forum’s meeting in Davos, the Swiss president Viola Amherd called on leaders to restore trust, drawing on the theme of trust for this year’s gathering.

She said there are elements of the population who distrust all that are in Davos and urged everyone to adhere to open debate and compromise.

She made it clear, she was not just talking about governments – but organisations and multinational companies.

Amherd went on to say that those at the meeting have to make sure they don’t appear detached while people struggle with the cost of living.

She said Switzerland is working to that goal with its offer of ‘good offices’ to accommodate debate and negotiation.
