A French elite police unit stormed a snack bar in Valence last Sunday, freeing a Swiss man in his mid-20s who had been kidnapped and held for several days.
The abduction appears linked to cryptocurrency dealings.
About 150 officers took part in the secret operation.
The victim was discovered handcuffed in a nearby building.
