Support for better NATO links

NATO

A new study shows the majority of people in Switzerland are fearful of the current geopolitical situation and many would welcome closer cooperation with NATO.

While neutrality limits how much this country can get involved with other military organisations - there remains scope for some level of agreement.

The ‘Security 2024’ study by the Military Academy at the ETH Zurich shows many people are not optimistic for the future – mainly due to the conflict in Ukraine and Gaza.

Over half say they would like better links with NATO. There’s solid backing for the recent Agreement to join the European Sky Shield Initiative, which is a common air defence system, but there’s no real support for NATO bases on Swiss territory.
