Some drivers could be in for a shock

Several drivers, who may have thought they were being clever, face thousands of francs in fines.

They may even have their licence suspended when they tried to cut in the long line for the Gotthard Tunnel over the weekend.

When the queues are long, its common practice for the police to close the entrances closest to the tunnel to stop traffic diverting to the side roads hoping to queue jump.

But that led to some drivers trying to enter the autoroute using the exit lanes – meaning they drove the wrong way.

Many may think they got away with it – but offenders have been caught on camera and fines, or worse, could be coming.
