Soldiers found unconscious in vehicle

Four Swiss army soldiers are said to be out of danger after being found passed out in an armoured vehicle on the Simplon Pass.

The army says they were suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Investigations are now being carried out on how. It’s suspected the cold weather tempted them to leave the engine running over night – although the army says that’s not normal procedure.

Temperatures fell to just 2 degrees in the Simplon village – so higher up it was likely to be under zero.

The soldiers were discovered by another team on Tuesday morning. They were taken to hospital by helicopter.
