Ski helmet tech falling behind

Doctors are warning ski helmet technology is not keeping up with skiing tech and many may not be as protected as they believe.

The last few years has seen skis improve and the pistes are being better prepared. This means many skiers are able to go far faster than they could before.

Dominque Pioletti from the Biomechanical Orthopaedics Laboratory at the EPFL in Lausanne says most helmets were developed 30 years ago and are no longer sufficient.

She predicts it will be another 5 years before helmet technology catches up.

Despite that, the advice from the Accident Prevention Office is still wear a helmet.
