Skiing not 'coming soon' to Vessy

A sign has been up in Vessy in Geneva promising a ski slope ‘coming soon’ it says in English.

But hopes of a Geneva ski slope seems to be slipping away.

The idea was to create a downhill slope, which would be around 80 metes long, fed with ice collected from local ice rinks and delivered by trucks.

But using lorries to carry snow is frowned on by environmentalist – so another idea is an artificial slope.

Julien Pala, who’s head of the project, wants to bring skiing closer to Geneva, but he also admits Geneva is not a skiing canton – only one in seven Genevans go skiing.

The sign will be taken  down soon, after two years.
