While ski resorts will be hoping for a cold, snowy season – it could come with some problems.
The government says if energy consumption is too high - it will order ski lifts and other leisure activity equipment to be switched off.
If it’s too cold, more people will be using heating – and staying at home with their lights and televisions on – pushing up energy use.
The Confederation has been clear that it will trigger emergency measures to cut energy use if necessary.
For ski resorts that could mean reducing the speed of ski lifts – or stopping them altogether.
There could also be some limits on the use of snow cannons – but the resorts point out that the vast majority of the cannon use is at the start of the season - before the usual winter energy peak.
