The Swiss government has decided that the protection status S for Ukrainian refugees will not be lifted until at least March 2025.
The S permit was created in March 2022, specifically for people fleeing the war in Ukraine. The decision regarding the permit has been taken as there appears to be no stabilization of the situation.
The permit-holders are allowed to work in Switzerland and stay in the country until it is safe for them to return.
Around 66,000 people in Switzerland have an active S status.
