Romania and Bulgaria secure passport free entry to Switzerland

Switzerland has confirmed air passengers arriving from Bulgaria and Romania will be allowed to skip passport checks when arriving in the country.

The EU has lifted air and sea border controls with the two countries as part of the Schengen agreement which allows passport free travel around Europe. Bulgaria and Romania will also be allowed to issue their own Schengen visas.

The deal has been held up due to the rise in irregular migration, but the two countries have agreed to step up their own controls on external EU borders.
