Roman life being dug up in Nyon

Construction work at a school in Nyon is unearthing several archaeological discoveries.

Workers have already found the remains of a Roman wall – but that was expected as it had already been catalogued.

But more, and slightly unexpected, Roman remains are being found. Experts believe they’ve found signs of an ancient blacksmiths and a craft working area.

Also, human remains have been found, as well as pottery fragments and some ancient jewellery.

As the area is in a known archaeological zone, experts are with the workers to check what’s dug up.

All findings are catalogued and the human remains are being sent for analysis.

But the work is continuing on the school renovation, which should be finished in 2026.
