A Swiss man got a nasty surprise while using mobile data in Germany.
Despite having a subscription with basic roaming included, he quickly burned through his allowance.
When notified he’d be charged at the "standard rate," he assumed the cost wouldn’t be too bad, until his connection was cut after watching just one YouTube video.
He had hit the 50-franc limit after using only 250 MB. That’s about 40 times the usual rate, he says.
It’s known that customers of Swiss mobile phone operators face far higher roaming charges when compared to EU users. There have been political attempts to limit the costs, but these have failed in Bern.
The advice is to make sure you understand the plan you’re signed up to.
