Geneva residents on the left bank are criticising the utility company, the SIG, for not communicating fast enough that the tap water isn’t safe to drink.
A water main burst on Sunday morning. The company warned that the water may have been contaminated and it shouldn’t be consumed.
But the timeline shows a large delay between the burst and residents being told not to drink the water. The pipe burst at just before 4am – the first message to the public was released at 1pm.
The mayor of one of the affected communes, Puplinge – Gilles Marti – says there was plenty of time for people to drink the water. He complained about being told by email – he says there should have been an emergency SMS message.
