Over the past five years, 22 reports of suspected sexual abuse in childcare settings have been passed to authorities across French-speaking Switzerland.
According to a report by RTS, the cases come from nursery directors, parents and former staff, and range from allegations that were later dropped for lack of evidence to others that led to criminal complaints.
Some reports describe disturbing incidents involving very young children, including claims of inappropriate contact by childcare workers.
Authorities say staff are typically suspended during investigations and safety procedures are reviewed.
Cantonal officials also stress that all childcare employees are checked against criminal records before hiring and annually, although closed cases do not appear in those records.
