Rental levels for private properties in Switzerland are the highest since 2009, according to the real estate marketplace, Homegate, which says that, over the past year, rents have increased, on average, by 2.6%.
Homegate says that the Swiss rent index, which measures the rate of change in rent prices of housing stock, rose 0.3 points in March compared to the previous month, reaching a new high of 120.2 points.
In real terms, rents increased last month in 18 cantons.
In Switzerland’s major cities, rents increased in Zurich, Bern and Geneva in March while a drop was reported in Basel, Lausanne and Lugano.
Rents have increased year on year in all of the cities analysed, with Zurich seeing the highest increase of 7.3% followed by Lugano at 6.4%.
