A coalition of left-wing parties and residents’ groups has launched a referendum against Geneva’s decision to reinstate a 50 kph limit on major roads.
The right-wing majority in the Grand Council scrapped the 30kph cap ten days ago.
Opponents say higher speeds will worsen noise for 120,000 residents, increase pollution, and raise the risk of fatal collisions.
They argue health, safety and the environment should outweigh the few seconds saved for through traffic.
They’re hoping voters will bring back the lower limit.
