Quake shakes Grand St Bernard

An earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter scale shook the area near the Grand St. Bernard Pass early this morning.

The Swiss Seismological Service says the tremor struck at 1:31, about 11km west of the pass.

Quakes of this magnitude typically cause no damage.

The service records around three to four earthquakes a day in Switzerland and nearby regions though only a small number are strong enough for the public to notice.
