The Aargauer Zeitung newspaper is reporting Vladimir Putin almost bought a high security villa in canton Fribourg.

It’s said he was interested in the house in 2008 just after he finished his first term as president and due to constitutional limits, Dimity Medvedev took over

It could be argued the villa would have been perfect for him. It's secured by a fence, high steel gates and with a large underground bunker which us nuclear proof.

The paper says relatives of Putin visited and started negotiations.

The purchase fell through – the exact reasons are not known. Now it’s owned by Barclays Bank, which bought it for CHF 17m at a foreclosure auction.
