Public transport fares to increase from December

Most people who use public transport will have to pay more from 10 December this year, with prices increasing by an average of 4.3%.

That’s according to a press release from the SwissPass Alliance, the industry organization for public transport, which includes 250 transport companies and 18 associations.

This is the first time that the Alliance has increased its fares since 2016.

The increase will not be the same for everyone, with first class prices rising by almost 2% compared with almost 5% for second class fares.

Half-fare tariffs, single tickets and products intended for "occasional" users will also be less affected by the increase.

Some fares, including half-price season tickets for 16 to 25-year-olds, child fares and school day passes will not be subject to an increase.
