Cyclists in Geneva are divided over a proposal to ban high-speed e-bikes from cycle paths.
Members of Pro Vélo Genève have voted to push for a nationwide ban on electric bikes capable of reaching 45 kilometres per hour from dedicated bike lanes.
Supporters argue the heavier, faster bikes pose safety risks, while opponents say there’s no clear evidence they cause more accidents and warn a ban could discourage their use.
Cantonal authorities also oppose the move, favouring improved cycling infrastructure over new restrictions.
