Possible new rules boost demand

Vaccination Geneva M3

The threat of stricter rules is driving demand for first doses, although the reaction in different cantons is mixed.

The Federal Health Office says nearly 6,000 more first doses were given last week than the week before.

Cantons Basel, Graubünden, Zurich, Bern and Fribourg say they’re seeing an increase.

But Solothurn, Schwyz, Appenzell and Valais say they haven’t really seen a change.

The trend for a higher vaccine demand when rules tighten has also been noticed in Germany and Austria.

Switzerland still has one of the lowest vaccination rates in Europe with only 68% of the population receiving a at least a first dose.
