Pools to open longer - thanks to climate change

Local authorities across French speaking Switzerland are adapting to climate change – and extending the times the swimming pools are open.

While the pools had a strong July and August – the season was slow to get going due to the rain.

But it’s increasingly common the good weather will last longer into September.

The mayor of Vernier, Martin Staub, told the RTS that sometimes they have found themselves in the situation with good weather, but closed pools.

Some pools will stick to their traditional closing dates – which will be this Sunday.

But many others are going to be open longer.

Lignon in Geneva will stay open until the 22nd – two weeks longer than normal. Many other pools will also extend their times.

In Vaud, the pools in Morges and Aigle will stay open until the middle of the month.
