The proposed new rules that limit even private gatherings of even 10 or more people will be very difficult to enforce.

A spokesman for the Conference of Cantonal Police Commanders says it’s practically impossible to check family and friends meeting in a private home.

Speaking to the Blick newspaper, Adrian Gaugler, says while the police are generally grateful to the public reporting suspicious activities, such as break ins, he says it will be a decision for neighbours if they want to a make a report.

The President of the Association of Swiss Police Officers, Johanna Bundi Ryser, says any attempt to check certificates at a private family party would probably not go down well.

A survey of Blick readers show 60% are against the rules being applied to families.
