Police officer to fight speeding fine

A Geneva police officer is threatening go to the federal court after he was fined for speeding – while engaged in a high-speed chase.

Prosecutors say he exceeded what would be considered proportional – hitting speeds of 100 kph in 50 zones.

The car was chasing a drink driver. The chase started in the Pâquis, and ended in Chêne-Bougeries, where the suspect was arrested.

Although it was on Boxing Day 2019 at 6.20 in the morning, so the roads were quiet, the cars raced through junctions and red lights at very high speeds.

The officer’s lawyer says it shows how the police have to make very difficult decisions at short notice.
