Police officer pardoned of speeding

A police woman has been pardoned for a speeding offence dating from 2017.

She had been given a suspended sentence of 280 hours of community service.

The Geneva Grand Council Pardons Committee decided to discard the conviction given the context of the situation.

The officer was chasing a car believed to have been stolen by a group which had already taken 48 vehicles in the canton, and was prone to violence. She reached 102 kph, more than 50 kph over the limit.

Every year dozens of people apply to be pardoned by the committee – very few are successful.
