Police head warns of more violence towards politicians

Nicoletta della Valle, Fedpol director

The head of the Federal Police Office says there’s a worrying rise in violence and threats to politicians.

In a newspaper interview, Nicoletta della Valle says some of those issuing threats are armed and have a criminal history. She says many politicians and scientists driving the recent Covid policy have been especially targeted.

The President of the Federal Vaccination Commission, Christoph Berger, was recently kidnapped and held for several hours. His kidnapper was shot and killed by Zurich police.

Della Valle also says there are now several high-level people with 24-hour police guard, such as the health minister Alain Berset and his family, as well as the rest of the Federal Council, judges and some federal workers.

She says that’s an enormous strain on resources.
