A chase lasting several hours brought together different police forces throughout French speaking regions yesterday morning.

It started around 4am when Vaud police wanted to stop a car. Officers believed the two occupants were acting suspiciously.

The car raced off and one shot was fired towards the police near the village of Corcelettes – another shot was fired shortly after.

After a search involving two helicopters and police from Vaud, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Bern the car was spotted heading towards Biel.

It stopped when it crashed into a police roadblock.

Two people have been arrested and a gun was found.

Police are not releasing any further information.
