Protestors are gearing to fight the installation of a ground station for Starlink, Elon Musk’s direct to satellite home internet system.
The plan is to remove one of the 10 large satellite antennas in Leuk in canton Valais and replace it with 40 smaller antennas.
The array is clearly visible across the Rhone valley. It’s used mainly for civilian communications – although the Department of Defence is a part owner of the site.
The mayor of Leuk, Alain Bregy, is behind the scheme – he says it will mean significant tax revenue for the commune.
But protest groups, such as those against 5G mobile phones, are urging people to formally object to the project.
Starlink already has around 150 ground stations around the world and launched 15 rockets carrying around 360 satellites last month alone.
