Forecourt prices are finally coming down with the price of petrol now below the magic CHF 2.- per litre mark – the first time since the Ukrainian war broke out.

Prices of around CHF 2.25 have been common now for months.

But the price of a barrel of oil has been below $100 for some time now and an important factor for Switzerland, the water levels in the Rhine River are up which is allowing for more barge traffic.

A third of the petrol, diesel and kerosene that this country uses come in by the river.

Some filling stations in cantons Basel, Bern and Solothurn are now selling petrol at around CHF 1.98.

There are hopes the lower prices will now spread quickly throughout the country.
