Politicians and financial experts are likely to be left scratching their heads after Sunday’s vote on pension reform, as the polls are showing a clear rejection of the plan.
The government is worried about the sustainability of the occupational pension, known as the second pillar.
More people are retiring and living longer.
In addition, low earners, tend to get a very low pension. This disproportionality affects women.
The reform would mean low earners will get a higher pension, but those paying into the system – both individuals and companies – will have to pay more.
Experts say something needs to be done – but after Sunday, it’ll be back to the drawing board.
