The lower house of parliament has backed a proposal to require major foreign online retailers to appoint a legal representative in the country.
The move targets platforms such as Amazon, Zalando and Temu, aiming to give consumers a clear point of contact in cases of disputes, from faulty deliveries to billing issues.
Supporters say the measure would also help authorities enforce regulations more effectively and ensure a level playing field with Swiss businesses.
But the Federal Council has expressed doubts about its impact.
The proposal still needs to be voted on by the Senate.
