Parliament has rejected an idea to charge tolls to use the Gotthard Road Tunnel and other busy routes.
A motion put forward by the Ticino MP, Marco Chiesa, wanted to put the onus on tourist traffic.
He says they pay nothing and the vignette is far too cheap. He points out that many other countries raise money with tolls.
The plan was to charge vehicles up to 3 and a half tonnes.
The government was also against the idea.
