Capping Switzerland’s population at 10 million would come at a heavy price.
That’s the warning from a new study by the University of Geneva and the Geneva School of Business Administration, examining the Swiss People’s Party initiative set for a vote this year.
Commissioned by the Federation of French-speaking Swiss Businesses, the report says limiting immigration would accelerate population ageing, reduce births, and shrink the workforce.
Sectors like healthcare, construction and hospitality would be hit particularly hard.
