Everyone is breathing a sigh of relief after no one was hurt following a massive rockfall in the picturesque Bernese Oberland village of Kandersteg yesterday afternoon.
The rocks also missed nearby buildings.
Locals say the noise was extremely loud when an estimated 20,000 m3 of rock broke away from the cliff.
Smaller falls continued for the next several hours.
The area around the fall has now been sealed off and geologists will be examining the cliff to make sure there’ll be no further collapses.
Experts say rockfalls are more likely due to rising temperatures melting the permafrost.
