A popular initiative that proposed to guarantee free crèche childcare for all children in the canton, was rejected by the Conseil d’Etat yesterday.
According to the Government, the initiative goes against cantonal law, which requires parents to make a financial contribution to childcare.
The far-left Union Populaire that launched the initiative disagrees.
Its members intend to lodge an appeal with the Cantonal Constitutional Chamber to oppose the rejection of their initiative. They say they are ready to go all the way to the Federal Court.
