No extra dental care

Geneva voters have narrowly rejected a socialist initiative to make dental care more affordable – by a margin just 144 votes.

The plan would have provided a CHF 300 annual voucher for the 135,000 residents who receive health-insurance subsidies.

Opponents, including the State Council, warned the measure would cost at least CHF 45m a year.

Voters also rejected a softer parliamentary counter-proposal, which focused mainly on prevention and planning, by a wider margin.
