Staying on the subject of transport in Geneva – the canton says it’s looking at the possibility of building new tram lines that bypass the city centre.
Currently all tram lines pass through the centre of town – but surveys show a quarter of travellers don’t actually want to go to the centre – but have to.
State Councillor Serge dal Busco say new peripheral lines would reduce the pressure on the major interchanges.
Three new lines are being proposed – running from Nations to Les Eaux-Vives, passing to the north of Cornavin, a second from Pont Butin to Carouge and a short third line from Onex to Pont Rouge.
The precise routes have yet to be determined, but the canton is to spend CHF 25m on a study.
They could be open by 2030.
