Swiss Federal Railways is experimenting with new solar installations – the panels will be laid on the ground, between the tracks.
The idea is the power will be sent to the traction lines.
The start-up, Sun-Ways, is based in canton Vaud. It says the system can be used all over the world.
They also point out, there’s very little opposition to panels between railway lines.
An experimental section has been installed in canton Neuchâtel.
The panels will be kept clean by brushes installed at the end of trains.
