New Roman find in Zug

City of Zug

Archaeologists are describing a new finding of Roman walls in canton Zug as ‘extraordinary’.

The cantonal office of Historical Monuments say there’s very few Roman remains in the foothills of the Alps and the last find in the canton was more than 100 years ago.

It’s thought the new site is over 500 m2. Also fragments of plaster have been found.

The site is near a gravel pit in the commune of Cham.

Archaeologists are also finding fragments of pots and bowls as well as jewellery and even some gold.
