New mass vaccination centre opens in neighboring France

As vaccine rolls outs in Switzerland continue to expand – a mass vaccination centre is due to open at the Palexpo in Geneva next week – France is also boosting its immunisations.

Just 20km from Geneva in Haute Savoie a new mass vaccination centre is opening at La Roche-sur-Foron.

It will soon have the capacity to vaccinate 1,000 a day. It’s just one of 200 France is setting up across the country.

In the meantime, the vaccine production centre run by Lonza in Visp in canton Valais is recruiting heavily to produce the Moderna drug.

It’s already hired 600 since the start of the pandemic, and looks set to double that over the few weeks.

While it’s recruiting locally, there’s also new staff arriving from all over Europe.

The factory has a 10-year contract with Moderna to make the vaccine for all markets, except the United States.
