Switzerland could soon introduce a legal partnership status for unmarried couples, similar to the French PACS system.
The proposal, backed by The Liberal Party, would create a form of officially recognised cohabitation offering some legal protections without the full obligations of marriage.
Under early plans, partners could represent each other in cases of illness or incapacity and would share certain legal responsibilities.
But unlike marriage, there would be no automatic inheritance rights or special tax status. The idea is now moving toward public consultation in parliament.
