New law against Revenge Porn

Switzerland may finally be catching up with other countries by making revenge porn illegal.

Currently, if someone makes a complaint to the police about the publishing of personal images, there’s nothing they can do, according a member of the Council of States, Céline Vara.

The Green Party member has introduced a motion that will make non-consensual release of sexual images an offence.

The proposal has been accepted by both houses of parliament.

Céline Vara says it’s good news as the new law will be able to protect people’s privacy. She says in her job as a lawyer, she’s often asked about what can be done.

There are no figures on how large a problem it is in this country, but that’s due to the fact it’s not a crime – yet.
