New car sales sluggish - but we want to have fun

New car sales remain sluggish, mainly due to the lack of supply as car makers are hit by component problems and a reduced ability to ship cars worldwide.

New figures from the Federal Statistics Office show sales in 2021 were down nearly 15% on 2019 sales.

The main drivers of new sales were passenger cars and electric or hybrid driven cars are doing well. Cars with petrol engines are down 15% and diesel down 37%.

But it does seem people want to have fun. The numbers show many new sales are for recreational purposes. There were 13% more motorcycle sales and 26% new mobile home sales. Both new records.
