The government is planning ahead. It’s placed an order for a further seven million doses of the Moderna vaccine for delivery early next year.
The logic is that people, certainly those classed at risk, are likely to need booster shots of the vaccine towards the end of the year and into 2022.
The deal makes Moderna, which has manufacturing facilities in canton Valais, the main vaccine supplier for the country. Although there are also orders for Pfizer/Biontech, Curevax and Novavax.
The government say it does have enough doses, either in stock on or order, to vaccinate children and adolescents.
