More using food banks

More and more people are being forced to use foodbanks.

The charity Caritas says its food stores are always full – and their turnover increased 11% last year.

Geneva is one of the most affected cantons which has seen foodbank use up more than 12%.

The head the Fondation Partage, Marc Nobs, told the RTS there are people who get to the end of the month and don’t have enough to buy food.

The cost-of-living crisis – high inflation, increasing health costs and higher electricity prices – means even those in full time employment are unable to cope.

In a TV interview yesterday, the federal councillor Guy Parmelin says he knows many families are struggling, but he says there is a social safety net and urges anyone who’s entitled to assistance to ask for it.
