More needs to be done to cool classrooms

Swiss classrooms are sweltering, and patience is running thin.

With heatwaves turning lessons into endurance tests, calls for quick fixes are multiplying.

In Bern, Vaud National Councilor Benoît Gaillard has tabled a motion demanding immediate action to cool schools, even floating the option of air conditioning.

His proposal seeks clear temperature limits for learning environments and technical solutions to keep classrooms bearable, possibly paired with solar energy to offset the extra power.

Teachers say government responses so far are insufficient.

Some unions are warning of strike action if children and staff continue to roast through summer lessons.
