Massive UK based cheese heist

British scammers are said to be behind a massive cheese heist. 33 tonnes of cheese worth CHF 450,000 have been stolen from the dairy firm Cremo.

The company was fooled into sending the cheese to the UK by people claiming to be purchasers for the high-end shop Harrods and the retail chain Iceland Foods.

Investigators in canton Fribourg say the emails ordering the cheese were convincing. The email addresses seemed legitimate, the VAT numbers on the order forms were correct and the email exchanges were professional, courteous and friendly.

The scam only came to light when the invoices were sent to the companies – who denied any knowledge of the orders.

It’s thought the cheese sent to the UK has been sold on the black market.

The Cremo company Is not commenting to the press.
