Man on trial for spending fake notes

A man is on trial for distributing counterfeit EUR 100 notes, which authorities describe as ‘extremely high quality’.

Prosecutors allege the 33-year-old brought in EUR 26,000 worth of fake notes – and used many of them in shops and had change returned to him in Swiss francs.

The court heard the man has a series of convictions involving fake bills and forgery – 24 in the last 15 years.

Prosecutors are demanding a 2-year jail term and a 10 year ban from entering Switzerland.

His defence is calling for more leniency, saying the man comes from a poor Parisian suburb and lost his father when he was young.
