Man jailed for 20 years for killing wife

A man has been jailed for 20 years for killing his wife by stabbing her 165 times in front of their five children.

The couple were living in an asylum centre in Büren in canton Bern. The family is from Afghanistan.

The 38 year old wife had asked for a divorce.

The judges said the killing was cowardly and base – and the man showed no remorse.

They said he had given several far-fetched accounts of events – but the testimony from his children was credible.

The man will be deported after his sentence.
