Man in jail after crazy chase with breast-feeding mother

Geneva Police

A man who led Geneva police and border guards on a wild car chase from Avusy to Bernex in December, while a woman was in the back seat breast feeding an infant, has been jailed.

The 50-year-old from Vaud was already known to the police and has served jail time in the past for kidnapping and theft.

The chase started just after he crossed the border and was ordered to stop by guards as part of a routine check. He accelerated away – but not fast enough to avoid a spike strip thrown out by the guards, which burst a tyre.

When he was stopped, he had several fake licence plates from different cantons and France, an illegal knife, cannabis and the car was later discovered to have been stolen last November.

He’s been ordered to remain in custody before a trial. He will also undergo psychiatric tests.

No one was hurt.
